The Eastern Africa Grain Institute (EAGI) is a division of the Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC) which specializes in training, capacity building and consultancy services in the grain sector for purposes of reducing transaction costs. EAGI was launched in 2012 to address the knowledge gaps in the grain value chain and since inception; it has provided high level solutions to various stakeholders in the grain sector in the region.
EAGI is headquartered in Kenya and provides its services in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia and South Sudan. The Objective of establishing this institution is to train and develop professionals and Structured Trading Systems Practitioners.
To be a recognized center of excellence and capacity development in grain trade in Eastern Africa
To impart knowledge and skills among the grain value chain stakeholders, promoting adoption of practices and technologies that improve grain quality and food safety and compliance with regionally agreed standards and regulations to facilitate intra-regional grain trade.
To develop, promote and implement capacity building programmes for the various grain value chain stakeholders groups: – farmers, input suppliers, traders and processors and value chain facilitators intended to achieve improved grain quality and compliance with market requirements, standards and regulations.
