ABOUT THE EAGC PULSES TRADE FAIR AND EXHIBITION DAY

The Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC) is a regional member based organization for the grain value chain stakeholders, with a mandate of developing, promoting and supporting the development of structured trading systems and supportive regional grain trade policies across the Eastern Africa region.

EAGC is pleased to invite the public to the Inaugural Pulses Fair and Exhibition day to be held at the Machakos ATC on 19th January 2017 from 9:00am.

The event will bring together traders and farmers of pulses and other stakeholders in the pulses subsector from different parts of the country in a Business to Business (B2B) meeting to discuss market linkages for the Pulses.

In partnership with the International Trade Centre (ITC), EAGC is in the forefront of promoting the “Supporting Indian Trade and Investment for Africa” (SITA) Project which is aimed at preparing the local farmers and aggregators of pulses to grow and supply the required volumes of pulses by the Indian Market and other international markets.

Pulses which include green grams, pigeon peas, chick peas, lentils, lupins, black gram and dry beans have emerged to be an interesting subsector in the grain value chain.

For the last few years, the demand for pulses in the international market has increased prompting a lot of research on pulses with respect to production-varieties and equipment, value addition and processing, packaging, post-harvest handling and other technologies.

EAGC together with its partners has been promoting the production and marketing of pulses through several interventions including G-Soko trading platform, provision of market information, training and capacity building of stakeholders and policy advocacy and promotion of aggregation.

The EAGC Pulses Trade Fair and Exhibition is aimed at providing a networking opportunity for information sharing and access to best technologies.

The event will have two sections:

  1. The Crop demonstration – Seed companies and input suppliers will have an opportunity to showcase different varieties of seeds and production techniques.
  2. The Exhibition Arena – Processing companies will showcase technologies in pulses production, processing and value addition

EAGC invites all Local farmers of Pulses (green grams, pigeon peas, chick peas, lentils, lupins, black gram and dry beans etc) to participate in the event.
