Communique on the Uganda National Stakeholders’ Workshop on Grain Exports

On 21st February 2021, the Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC) in partnership with the Integrated Agritech (U) Ltd, a Member of EAGC hosted a National Stakeholders’ Consultative Workshop on grain exports to deliberate on structuring Uganda’s grain trade in order to tap into the existing grain market opportunities in Kenya.

The workshop held at the Integrated Agritech Offices in Ntinda, Kampala, attracted participants from both government Agencies and Private Sector Grain Players from across the country with some of the participants joining the workshop virtually.

The consultative stakeholders’ workshop was held in recognition of the unstructured nature of the grain market in Uganda, which if structured would provide greater market access for grains of Ugandan origin to the Kenyan market. The workshop was therefore geared to deliberate and forge the way forward to enable grain traders in Uganda to overcome the informal and unstructured nature of how they conduct their business, to help them to become part of a structured commodity trading system that will facilitate export trade in large volumes of good quality grain.
