Border profiling and recruitment of market and border monitors
Jacinta Mwau together with ELAN RDC team conducted interviews and hired 8 market and border monitors in the Eastern and Southern DRC .Six markets namely Goma, Uvira, Bukavu, Kasumbalesa, Likasi and Kolwezi have been set up and data collection commenced today on the 2nd July 2018. 5 Borders were also set up and data collection commenced today as follows: Goma, Uvira port, Kavinvira, Kamanyola, Sange,Luvungi and Kasumbalesa. The monitors were trained on data collection and the importance of EAGC RATIN data to the DRC grain sector as well as to the Eastern Africa Region. The border and market monitors selected have a rich background in agronomics and agricultural sector value chain and therefore will be complementing RATIN grain watch publications with additional information in regards to the crop seasonal review which feeds also to the Eastern Africa Crop Monitor Bulletin produced in partnership with ICPAC.
Membership development in DRC
Three new members were also recruited during the market and border monitor recruitment. These include: African milling Company Congo, Mbeko Shamba and ETS Baraka Company Seed. This brings total EAGC membership in Congo to 12 members.
