EAGC in partnership with the Masindi District local government hosted the 10th Agri-business Expo on 24- 25 June 2022, at Kihonda Demonstration Farm, Masindi Disrict, Western Uganda. Masindi Woman MP Dr. Florence Asiimwe Akiiki presided over the official opening of the expo, which was the first after the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown in Uganda.
The expo was hosted under the theme; “Agro-industrialisation as a tool to sustainable farm income amidst changing climates.” The expo focused on climate change to bring to the attention of farmers agricultural technologies such as mechanization and irrigation which can help farmers adapt to the prevalent impact of climate change which has had a negative effect on farmers in the past two years.
The Expo attracted over 80 exhibitors among them the suppliers of agricultural equipment, machinery, agrochemicals, financial institutions, insurance, research institutions, private sector, development partners, government agencies and ministries.
Farmers were sensitized on certified agricultural inputs and urged to look out for counterfeit inputs following a high occurrence of farmers falling for counterfeits due to their inability to differentiate fake inputs from the genuine ones. It was noted that the district leadership had recently trained dealers of agro-inputs, who in turn have been registered for easy monitoring.
Dr. Florence in her opening remarks noted that the expo compliments the recently launched Government Parish Development Model in taking services to the last mile. She called upon farmers to adopt the practices learnt from the expo particularly in the areas of climate change, post-harvest handling & management as well as value addition.
