In recognition of the food safety challenges affecting food security in the Eastern Africa region and beyond, EAGC participated in the Africa Food Safety Summit held on 20th – 22nd July, 2022, to engage and share in the platform to boost quality, food safety and conformity to enhance trade in local, regional and global markets.
The Summit brought together food experts and global stakeholders from the private, public, academia and the development sector to engage in the latest trends in food science and technology; regulations, standards and compliance; operations and sustainable adoption of food safety practices and technologies in the entire agriculture and food value chain in Africa.
The summit focused on key matters that are a bridge to food safety. These are access to essential technologies, food safety and quality financing, digitalization and information systems, infrastructure and compliance systems and building the capacity of consumers on food safety.
EAGC is keen on promoting food safety through EAGC’s co-owned Interfield Food Testing Laboratories (IFTL) that offers specialized testing of grains, flour, flour products, cereals, pulses, oil seeds, soya products, animal feeds, and other food commodities such as nuts, butter, dried fruits, water, milk, water and their derivatives.
The lab helps clients achieve their objectives by providing professional expertise in quality assurance on their products delivered with short a turnaround time and accuracy. The scope of analysis includes; Physical, Aflatoxin, Chemical, Microbiology, Nutritional Value, Heavy Metals, Vitamins. Additionally, the lab has diversified services to Capacity Building Training in Sampling Procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points (HACCP) for Food and Feeds.
