Tanzania’s local B2B meetings net bulk trade deals for grain trade

The Tanzania country team, with the support of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) held  Business 2 Business (B2B) meetings in Northern zone (Manyara) and Southern Highlands (Songwe) on the 6th and 9th August, 2022 respectively. 

The B2B meetings aimed to provide a platform for grain farmers through Farmers Based Organizations to meet grain buyers and engage in trade deals both in the present and in the future. The B2Bs attracted a total of 20 FBOs in each of the meetings and 5 and 7 buyers in Manyara and Songwe respectively. 

During the meetings 3,000MT of beans, 8,200MT of maize and 1,500MT of sunflower valued at USD 2,699,532, USD 1,932,522, and USD 205,678 respectively were activated for immediate trade, while paddy, rice, maize, ground nuts, common beans and sunflower amounting to 12, 700MT were committed for sale and actualization in the near future. 

Present at the B2B meetings were Agricultural officers in Manyara – Mr. Gervas and in Songwe – Mr Michael who appreciated the opportunity to bring together buyers and sellers of grain and more so closer to the farmer. The officers urged the FBOs and other farmer based Small Medium Enterprises  to tap into  opportunities brought by developing  partners to improve production and trade while ensuring sustainability.
