EAGC is conducting a market surveillance for maize quality in Tanzania and Uganda to establish the level of compliance with standards in the maize trade corridors linking Uganda and Tanzania to Kenya with support from the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). The project – Improving Compliance with Maize Quality Standards along Trade Corridors in East Africa, has been working towards the enabling of structured intra-regional trade in standard compliant maize grain in East Africa.
The key objectives of the project is to improve the quality of maize produced and traded, and consequently increase the volume of structured trade in standards-compliant maize, with key beneficiaries of the project being maize farmers and aggregators and exporters in both Tanzania and Uganda.
EAGC through the East Africa Market Development Associated (EAMDA) will reach out to EAGC Members, farmers and other stakeholders to assess the impact of the project and a wider sector learning in relation to maize trade and quality compliance.
As such, the market surveillance will see the collection of grain samples from the key beneficiaries tested and a comparative analysis of the project beneficiaries carried out against the non- beneficiaries. The outcome of the analysis will measure the impact of the project and further guide the implementation of the project for improved outcome and increased benefits to Members.
EAGC calls upon Members to support the actualization of the exercise when called upon by EAMDA.
