Implementation of the EAGC – County Governments MoU on the establishment of Smart Markets in Kenya still on

EAGC attended Governor’s Roundtable of the County Government of Kajiado on 29th August, 2022, hosted by His Excellency Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, as a key partner and stakeholder of the County Government. EAGC has an ongoing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the County Government of Kajiado for the establishment and improvement of Kajiado’s Ngong Market to Smart Market designs through a pilot installation of  smart components and e-mobility capabilities at the market.

Additionally, early in the year,  EAGC under the MoU, supported by the Rockefeller Foundation,  supported the County Government via a stakeholder consultative workshop to provide input to the Kajiado County Draft Market Management Bill (KCDMB) – which was then tabled for debate by the County Assembly –  in alignment with EAGC’s development of the National Public Market Development and Management Strategy.

EAGC has also partnered with the County  to support structured grain trade through the Namanga and Loitoktok Border points through which trade happens between Kenya and Tanzania.

The Governor’s round table has been instituted as an ongoing platform that will hold monthly meetings  to explore opportunities to facilitate food trade and easier food access in the County, and further implement strategies to support food security in the County that is currently facing severe drought.

EAGC and the County of Kajiado will fast-track the conclusion of the installation of the smart market components.
