Simplifying trade processes for trading across borders through capacity building

EAGC’s Grain Business Institute conducted the International Commodity Trade Processes and Procedures training on the 29th – 31st August, 2022  at the Eureka Place Hotel in Kampala. The training was held in partnership with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), NCBA Bank Uganda, the Ministry of East African Community Affairs (MEACA),  the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) in the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) and the National Enterprise Corporation through NEC-AGRO.  The training attracted over 15 stakeholders from grain agribusinesses, grain trading and processing companies and grain producer and marketing cooperative societies from across the country.

The training laid out trade requirements and export and import processes and procedures which enhance ease of doing business for the grain traders by reducing the time taken to clear goods and reduced cost of movement of goods across borders. Adherence to these measures by the traders is anticipated to ensure a seamless, easy and cost-effective cross border trade that increases profits and eventually expands the trade competitiveness of the grain value chain in the country.

Similarly, the Business Institute will hold an Aflatoxin Detection, Testing and Control training in Dodoma, Tanzania on the 6th – 7th of September, 2022, targeting warehouse operators and grain businesses. One of the key anticipated guests is the Tanzania Bureau of Standards.

In addition, in an effort to mitigate post-harvest losses, the Grain Business Institute in Tanzania is conducting farmers training on Post-Harvest Management and Aflatoxin Control through Associate Trainers, targeting a total of 1800 farmers in Manyara, Mbeya and Ruvuma regions.
