EAGC to champion climate smart technologies for sustainable food systems in Rift region

[Eldoret, Kenya – 31st October 2023] – The Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC), in
partnership with Uasin Gishu County Government is excited to announce the 2nd edition of
its Rift Region Agribusiness Expo, scheduled for the 2nd of November 2023, at the Eldoret
National Polytechnic grounds. H.E Hon Jonathan Bii the Governor of Uasin Gishu County
Government is expected to preside over the official opening of this year’s expo which will
carry the theme “Climate Smart Technologies and Practices for Sustainable Food Systems.”

40 companies have taken up exhibition stands to create awareness, train, and sell to over 3,000
farmers climate smart technologies and innovations to enable them to adopt sustainable food
systems. Various industry stakeholders in the grain industry have also provided sponsorship
opportunities including National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), Cosmos, Davis &
Shirtliff, Advanta Seeds and Grain Pro Kenya Ltd. Trans Nzoia, Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet,
West Pokot, Nakuru and Kisumu Counties have confirmed to facilitate farmers to attend the
exhibition.

The Confederation of Danish Industries in East Africa (DI) are partnering with EAGC in
hosting the exhibition as part of an ongoing 3-year strategic partnership aimed at enhancing
sustainable and competitive grain production and marketing that contributes to food security
and job creation through improved capacity of farmers in production and access to markets,
improving capacity of processors to access technology, skills and efficiency in management as
well as improving knowledge and compliance to quality standards through Industry Selfregulation (Industry Own checks).


Previously the council has held successful Agribusiness expos in Makueni and Mtwapa
bringing together over 3000 farmers and 80 exhibitors to showcase their produce and services.
This exhibition will feature crop and livestock demonstration units, an exhibition arena,
machinery display, B2B meetings and farmers trainings.


This year’s expo will be hosted at an opportune time when farmers in the Rift region have
been working with their respective county governments and EAGC to aggregate grains from
the March April May (MAM) long rains seasons for trade through the GSOKO trading
platform B2B market linkages which will be facilitated on the sidelines of the event. EAGC
has mobilized bulk grain volume buyers to attend the exhibition and meet farmer groups
leaders for B2B meetings to sign intends to trade in agricultural produce mainly grains.

Farmers will be trained in good agricultural practices and business management skills to help
them manage their land, effectively cultivate their crops, and increase their harvests through
climate smart technologies and practices for sustainable food systems.
